Somerset Lib Dems

In May 2022, Somerset Lib Dems became the largest Lib Dem group in the country, winning 62 out of 110 seats on Somerset County Council, after 13 years of Conservative Leadership. Cllr Bill Revans, from North Petherton, became the council leader, using his wealth of lived experience and a long career in education to put the Heart back into Somerset.

Lib Dems ran Somerset County Council in:

  • 1993 - 2001, Lib Dem
  • 2001 - 2005, No overall control, Cathy Bakewell Lib Dem - Council Leader
  • 2005 - 2009, Lib Dem

On the 1st of April 2003, Somerset County Council and the four district councils became one unitary council, a decision made by Parliament. The council is now called the 'Somerset Council'.
